Good Scale FAQs

How do I adjust span and zero on models with pot calibration?

Rear view of early floor model version with battery test switch. Note: on the bench model the span pot is next to the on/off switch and the zero pot is inside the cover.

Span resistor is R11. Very early models cannot display the zero count figure, it is done by trial and error - too high and it won't go to full capacity, too low and it won't zero.

Side view of "A" and "S" types (floor model). Clockwise adjustment speeds it up. On bench models, zero pot is on A/D board inside cover.

If you run out of adjustment, change resistor R14 - the higher the resistance, the faster it will go.

Zero count figure is around 2,500. Press SET key followed by 7 key to display the value.

How does the calibration procedure for machines with keyboard calibration differ?

With chip versions EN-10 and after the calibration procedure has been modified:

  1. At step 5 the display used to prompt the operator with a suggested calibration weight which could be altered through the keyboard.
  2. As from now the scale shows "L 0" at which point the user can enter a calibration weight of his choice.
  3. If the scale is 1500, 3000 or 6000 grams capacity the value is entered in grams. If it is 15kg or above the value is entered in kg.
  4. Calibration then continues as before.

How do I fit a replacement A/D board?

Your existing A-D board is probably an older version. The new board will fit as a straight swap. You will need to take the black and red wires from your existing mains adaptor socket and solder them to the connections shown:
D+ red
D- black

An earth tag should also be fitted between the black wire on the main socket and the chassis of the scale.

What is the "dealer calibration" procedure for UWE machines?

The following outlines the generalised dealer calibration procedure for the majority of UWE models. Some models use a "TARE" key, others use a "SAMPLE" key. This procedure does not apply to the HGS type - for this, see below.

  1. Switch on the scale while holding down the TARE/SAMPLE key, the display will show F1.
  2. Press the MODE key, the offset value or "internal count" will be displayed, this figure should be adjusted using the trimpot VR1. The correct figure for most models is 10,000 except for the EBW & GM series models which are set to around 5000.
  3. Press the ZERO key, the display will "Zero off".
  4. Press the TARE/SAMPLE key, now press the ZERO key, wait a few seconds, press the TARE/SAMPLE key again, now press the ZERO key.
  5. A small arrow or ring should have appeared to the right of the display.
  6. Now place the lower calibration weight on the scale, this is usually one third of the capacity of the scale. ( The value of this weight can be determined by following the user calibration procedure below ). The display should be showing a value of around 11,000. ( Except EBW & GM series ). Now press the MODE key, the scale will calibrate itself, show "DONE" and return to the weighing mode.

What is the standard end user calibration procedure for UWE machines?

  1. Switch the scale on while holding down the MODE key, the display will show "CAL?"
  2. Press the MODE key again, the display will show "YES" then "LOAD" and then change by itself and alternate between two acceptable calibration weights, choose one of these weights and place it on the scale.
  3. The scale will now self calibrate and return to the weighing mode.

What is the calibration procedure for HGS type machines?

  1. Switch scale on while holding down the middle key on the top row of buttons, display will show F1
  2. Press the left-hand button on the top row, the internal count will now be displayed, set this figure to 10,000 using VR1 pot.
  3. Switch off the scale, now switch on again while holding down the left hand button on the top row, the display will show "CAL- ZERO", the display will change by itself ( this can take a while ) to show "LOAD-span" followed by a choice of two acceptable calibration weights, choose your preferred weight and place it on the scale. After a while the display will show done and return to the weighing mode.

How do I change the capacity and division size on an APF?

  1. Hold down the TARE key and switch on, display shows F1, press TARE key until F3 is shown.
  2. Press the MODE key, display shows "oiml" press the ON-ZERO key, display shows "norm". (Select oiml for a stamped scale or norm for a non stamped version)
  3. Press the MODE key, display shows "type", press the MODE key again.
  4. Display shows "dp", use the ON-ZERO key to select the correct decimal place and the press the MODE key.
  5. Display now shows "CAP_2?" press the ON-ZERO key, the display will now show the current capacity and division size with the left hand digit flashing.
  6. Use the TARE key to move the flashing digit along, use the ON-ZERO key to change the flashing number to the desired setting. It is important to move the flashing digit all the way along to the far right hand end even if you are not changing the division size otherwise the changes will not be saved.

Soehnle FAQs

What is the correct charging procedure for the Soehnle 7741/2/3 models?

To properly charge the batteries on these scales the following procedure should be followed.

Plug the charger unit in and switch on at the mains, the red L.E.D. Charging light should come on, now plug the lead into the scales, when the red light goes out the batteries should be fully charged, the charging procedure takes approximately 8 hours to complete.

Plugging the lead into the scales before switching on at the mains will not charge the batteries; this procedure will run the scales directly from the adaptor/charger only.
